“Forward Deployed Engineering” sounds like a lot of jargon for a simple idea: instead of handing you a strategy document and wishing you luck, we send our own engineers to sit inside your team and build the thing with you.
Most consulting engagements end at a recommendation. Ours start there. An FDE is a senior engineer who joins your daily standups, gets access to your codebase in the first week, and starts shipping real, working code, usually within a few days rather than months. They’re not there to write a report about your AI strategy. They’re there to build the first version, fix what’s broken, and show your own engineers how to do it themselves next time.
The name comes from the military idea of “forward deployment”: putting people where the actual problem is, not observing it from headquarters. We borrowed the concept because it matches how we think AI projects should actually work. You don’t need another slide about what’s possible. You need someone who can sit down, open the repo, and start making it true.
By the time we leave, the goal isn’t just a working system. It’s a team that can maintain, extend, and build on it without needing us back in the room.
A snapshot of the kind of work our FDEs and practice teams are running for clients this quarter. Client names stay confidential, but the work is real and current, not hypothetical.
Two FDEs embedded with a mid-market regional bank, rebuilding a fraud-review workflow that used to take analysts 20 minutes per case down to under 3, with a human still signing off on every flagged transaction.
Migrating a 15-year-old scheduling system for a multi-site healthcare provider off a discontinued framework, using AI-assisted characterization tests to lock in behavior before touching a line of legacy code.
Operating Tier 1 and Tier 2 AMS for a multi-brand retail platform through their current peak season, with the majority of routine incidents resolving automatically before a human ever sees a ticket.
Building the orchestration and guardrail layer for a logistics client’s dispatch-agent system, with every autonomous action logged, reversible, and capped by explicit permission boundaries.
Standing up an AI-native delivery team for a state government agency, including the prompt-review and audit process their compliance office needed before anything could touch production.
No vendor deck, no pitch. Tell us the problem and we’ll give you a straight answer about whether and how we can help.
